I never said it be easy

It's been so long... sorry. Not so good at this whole deal. And I had time. Boy did I have time...
I had my surgery June 23rd. Something I'm not sure I should put under a grateful category or not... Grateful it happened, and that I came out of it. Grateful that while the rest of my insurance sucks, everything in the surgery was covered. Grateful my work was kind enough to give me these 3 weeks to recover. Grateful for the stack of old, but entertaining People magazines I had to read. Grateful for:
* Robert's kind doting and consern
* People like Liz and Lauren that came by to visit
* My mom coming out and spending time with me the day after
* Netflix movies
* Shout outs from Molly acknowledging my letters
* Finding a way for Robert and I to "relieve" ourselves until we can be together again
* Jasmine Lime Coolers from Peet's in Harvard Square
* Out in the sun today at Brookline Park
* Gary being cool with my half-day return to work, commencing tomorrow (which I'm pretty nervous about)...

And grateful I have the opportunity to get better and do the things I've been missing out the past few years. Things I WILL do, like play tennis again, dance, sky dive, bike ride, try yoga, and not be afraid...

Sunshine and several days o' smiles

* Sitting out by the Charles listening to children playing, reading Captain Underpants in the sunshine, and getting paid for it.

* Tingle shampoo from Trader Joe's that makes me, well - tingle.

* Neil Patrick Harris (the PH is really poon handler)

* Looking so cute in my yellow Miami shirt

* Getting myself to finally mail out a letter to Bukina Faso to greet Molly when she arrives.

better late than never

Well, so much for everyday.

But I'm new at this so cut me some slack.

Things I'm grateful for that have occurred over the last 4 days.

1) Some smiley times with two students I took to the Museum of Science on Thursday
2) Massaging loveliness that night
3) Out to Burton's for drinks with good people. Delicious key lime pie I got to steal a bite of.
4) Coming up with the perfect going away presents for one of my favorite people and being able to see her and how happy it made her before she left.
5) Taking a tour of the alma matter with my love and thinking of the good times that came from that crap house
6) Delightful buys at Old Navy like new flip flops and cheap yummy smelling soap.

Getting Started

Everyday, despite undeniable frustrations, good things happen. More specifically, they happen to me. Or not even happen, but just are. These things may be small, and because of that, easily ignored or forgotten, but they exist and more attention should paid to them. That's right - I'm saying it. Saying it in part due to an inspirational discussion over drinks tonight from which I'm clearly stealing this idea from someone else, but saying it nonetheless. So, the plan is - each day I will document a couple things to be grateful for. Things that make me smile or feel fortunate. We'll see how it goes...

1) I got to spend 10 minutes this morning before I got up snuggling in bed with Robert.

2) I was able to buy a coffee today without spending any of my own money - thanks to the giftcard from my staff.

3) Left work early and got a lane in the pool - beating my swim time and feeling good when I got out.

4) Hearing a new favorite song - "Waking up in Vegas" on the drive home

5) Having steak cooked and ready for me when I got in, and creating a delicious side dish.

6) Having easy conversation out with Robert's friends, laughing and thinking and feeling confident and funny as I spoke.

7) Feeling optimistic about this endeavor, and happy I have the opportunity to try it out...

Okay - that's it for now. It was easy tonight - I know other days will not be so, but I'm going to try and put out something from the day. There's lots of things that warrant the attention that is typically given to the petty frustrations of the day, and I'm going to try to change that.
